So, in a panic I picked out the other black hamster they had there. I brought him home and all Devon said was "Gut got bigger". We went with it. Well that night I barely slept at all because I kept having nightmares that the new Gut was escaping. He just looked TOO much like a rat and I couldn't handle it.
On our way home from the gym the next night I stopped at another pet store and alas they had a Teddy Bear Hamster. This was what I originally had in mind because they are fluffy and don't look so much like mice. The people at the other pet store said they were basically impossible to find so I didn't even try. Turns out their rival pet store had them all along. I bought the little brown hamster and convinced Devon that the other Gut missed his friends and wanted to go back to the pet store...I know, I'm horrible.
Anyways, now we have Patrick and I love the little dude. He is soft and fluffy (although it's hard to tell in the picture). He is healthy and sweet and will sit and let us hold him. He's a good addition!

I love this story, It just makes me think, WOW in 100 years would I have ever imagined doing something like that for my kid? And then you do it. So sweet and loving.
How did he get the name patrick?
You crack me up! Marlee will not ever be getting any hamsters or anything like that...you are BRAVE! :)
I'm glad you were able to find another teddy bear hamster... I wouldn't have wanted a rat looking hamster either. I'm also curious how you all got the name Patrick?
